Other Opportunities provided in 2014- 2015
What an inspirational morning we had when Chris came to visit us! The ex-Olympic and Commonwealth swimmer was so inspiring and encouraging that even the adults were motivated to become better and improve themselves!
We are really hoping that we will be able to welcome Chris back to Westmeads during Term 6 when he may be able to swim with the Year 1 children at Whitstable Swimming Pool. Stay posted for an up-date soon!
Hasland Dance Studio – Street Dance Workshop
Continuing our links with local clubs, we were very lucky to be able to offer the children in KS1 a free street dance workshop taster session with Paul from Hasland Dance Studios. Every class had a 30 minute session during which they learned the beginning of a routine. All of the children had a wonderful time and much of the playground was taken up with children performing street dance moves during the rest of the day! I hope that the parents who came along found the session fun and informative.
Fun Fitness Day
On Wednesday 6th May the whole school took part in a Fun Fitness Day which was arranged for us by the Herne Bay and East Kent Costal Sports Partnership, to encourage all children to take part in physical activity. Children were awarded stickers for team work, passion and self-belief. There was also an intra-school completion for the most speed bounces completed during a set time. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed boy and girl in each
year group were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Activities were set up for the children to carousel around and they included long jump, speed bounce, step ups, timed running challenge, hurdles challenge and 5 strides.
Despite the bad weather, we pushed on through and there were many smiling faces at the end of the day.
Here are some direct quotes from the children after the event:
“The bean bag one was really fun as well as being a race.”
“It reminded me of all the fun I had at the Infant Agility Competition.”
“When I got to the speed bounce I went WOW!”
“I don’t know why …. I just LOVED the hurdles.”
“I liked having a go at all of them but the speed bounce was best … I felt good at it.”
